Timothy's Ministry, We Are Family

Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28

BACKGROUND
(By Marian Alvarado)

Timothy's Ministry first began in December 2002 as God's answer to my prayer after I cried out to God on my knees the day before my son Tim's birthday (Tim passed away the year before). I remember saying, "Help me, God, if only I could have had the simple joy of baking Tim a cake, what I would have given." Click on "Stories" in the top navigation bar to read how it all began.

Volunteer Opportunities: Bring and serve (or drop off) a lunch or dinner to serve 30 people. Or, if you would like to donate $75.00, we will purchase and cook a delicious meal in our Tim's House Kitchen. Example: 2 large spiral cut hams, 2 large bags of salad, 10 pounds of red potatoes (tossed with butter), vegetables and fruit, bread and butter.

Volunteer Meal Suggestions (Quantities):

  • Two 10 pound spiral hams or 60 - 75 pieces of chicken (Jewel is great) or 2 large catering pans filled with a meat casserole such as lasagna, chicken casserole, etc.
  • 10 pounds of potatoes or 2 large catering pans of rice, pasta, or cheesy potatoes
  • Two large salad bags (from Costco) or 2 11x15 pans of salad
  • One pan of vegetables or fruit

Location: Mount Olive Church, 3850 North Tripp Avenue, Chicago IL 60641
Corner of Byron and Tripp - Entrance is on Byron near ally.
(located one block West and two blocks South of the I-90 Expressway/Irving Park exit.)

Tim's House Hours:
Thursday: 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Dinner served between 5:30 - 6 p.m.)
Fridays: 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Lunch served at 12:15 - 12:30 p.m.)

Purpose: To provide a safe, loving, and encouraging place for people struggling with homelessness to gather and experience the love of God through community. There is prayer, conversation, sharing, Bible Study, delicious food, and support with housing, shelters, I.D.s, medical/mental/dental health referrals, and the many other challenges that homelessness brings.

I often refer to Tim's House as "God's heartbeat" because there is such love in this place. People love coming together and always say there is no place like Tim's House and I know this is because of the presence and love of God in our midst! Everyone helps each other at Tim's House and we have become a family where newcomers are always welcome and embraced!
